Title: “Afon”
Series: The Dudnik Circle #3
Cover Design: Esther E. Schmidt
Photographer/Model: Joram Krol Photography
Genre: Mafia Romance
Standalone
Release: 06/12/2018

Didn’t you get the hint yet? I’m always hungry for a taste of retribution with the need to purge. I’ve drowned in my own blood and welcomed the taste until it fueled me to revive. I’m Afon Nikolin, third in command of The Dudnik Circle. The Russian Mob, in case you need a label.
The woman I claimed as my future wife, without her knowledge I might add, is part of the Italian mob. She has the same taste for retribution, except she almost paid for it with her own life. Revenge can eat you alive, drag you down until there’s only a shell of a person left, or will cost you everything this world has to offer.
With multiple enemies targeting both sides, we have no other choice but to rely on each other. Everything in life is a risk, either with your heart, or your last breath. I’m willing to risk it all when it involves saving her, but will it be enough for the both of us?
**This dark, intense, standalone romance is not for the faint of heart. You've been warned.**

Excerpt:
“Tough way to find out about the other woman.” “Other woman, hell,” Dru groused. “The assistant was some young stud from Tommy's gym with abs to die for.” With that. she side-stepped him and reached for the knob on the bathroom door. Fast on his feet, Rory's counter move brought them nose to nose. “Play much poker, Horvath?” “I don't know what you mean.” “Before you started trash talking the cheating ex-husband, your face lit up like the Fourth of July. That tells me you've got something stashed in the tote. Until you let me look inside, it stays out here.” Clutching the canvas tote to her chest, she sneered, “The only thing in here is my outfit for tonight's event. If you think I'd go naked, one of us is a couple fries short of a happy meal.” His response came in the form of another gimme motion with those thick, blunt fingers. “How about I close my eyes if I encounter any lacy unmentionables?” “As if.” She knew the instant he found the back-up phone. The screw-you look morphed into a smirk. “It's not smart to mess with Homeland Security, sweetie. Those guys eat small rodents for breakfast.”

Excerpt: Common sense said to walk away. She’d worked hard to make a life for herself in LA that worked for her. Screw common sense. He stepped forward and reached around her, looped his fingers around her slim wrists, and tugged her hands from her pockets. Then he took those hands and drew her closer to him. “Derek . . .” “I wasn’t sure if you’d ever come back.” “I’m only back temporarily.” “Is that how you left things with Eliot?” That she’d be going after him soon? His mouth tightened at the thought. “He had to go. He had meetings scheduled with directors. And new equipment coming in that he has to test and make decisions on before the next shoot.” When she talked about Eliot, she talked about the business. That gave Derek hope. Sounded like they’d parted as friends and colleagues, not as lovers who couldn’t wait to reunite. Two and a half weeks left, at the most. He knew her shooting schedule from talking with Zelda. About eighteen days more before Jess had to report to the set. So why in hell was he wasting time? He dipped his head and brushed his lips over hers. He’d gotten lost once in the Iraqi desert for three days. He hadn’t been as thirsty for water back then as he was now for a taste of Jess. When she didn’t protest, he pulled her fully into his arms and kissed her. The point of no return. He needed to find out if things could still work between them. He wanted her, and he could no longer pretend that he didn’t. Her body was firm, but her lips were soft and silky, as sweet as Zelda’s prizewinning angel food cake. As sweet as the old Jess. Except, this new Jess, she was a woman. She had the power to bring Derek to his knees. He’d told her that he would give her whatever she needed from him. He hoped she’d figure out that he was what she needed. He was going to have to help her reach that conclusion. He breathed her in. She smelled like redemption. Like maybe he could have a do-over and get it right this time. She stood still in the circle of his arms. Undecided. Wary. Better than a sharp knee in the balls, but Derek wanted more. He nibbled her lips and licked the seam, tasting her. She tasted like a whole new world opening up. She tasted like the blank page of a book before he’d written the first word, the possibilities limitless. Was the story of his life written on her heart? Was the story of her life written on his? Too early to tell. But he wanted to find out. Letter by letter, word by word, sentence by sentence. If only she’d let him. She did let him in, let him deepen the kiss. Progress, but this was just the opening of her lips, not the opening of her heart. Still, Derek wouldn’t have been a good SEAL if he didn’t grab every advantage, no matter how small. And, really, the kiss could not be called small by any measure. As he swept into Jess’s mouth, he felt his boundaries expand. Need rushed in, and filled him like water flooding into a torpedoed submarine. He sank onto the seabed of things he always wanted but never believed he could have. Jess’s forgiveness . . . and more. All these years, he’d thought her forgiveness was all he wanted. He’d been stupid. He wanted this. Jess. And he knew in that moment that he was going to do whatever it took to get her and keep her. Eliot couldn’t have her, no matter how handsome he was, or how much they had in common, or how hot women thought it was that the guy was some grandmaster of stunts. Derek wasn’t going to let Eliot have Jess. He didn’t care if the guy jumped out of a burning helicopter, tied hand and foot, with a ticking bomb in his backpack, and got an Oscar nomination in every single category for the performance.

Review: Her Super-Secret Rebound Boyfriend by Kerri Carpenter

Her Super-Secret Rebound Boyfriend
Synopsis

It wasn’t shy librarian Lola McBride's idea to crash someone else’s high school reunion. Her best friend made her do it, insisting that having a little fun with a super-hot rebound would make her forget about her recent breakup. That’s when she meets the hottest guy she’s ever seen.

Architect Luke Erickson had no idea attending his ten-year reunion would turn out to be so fun. He catches the sexy brunette in a lie, and he counters with a proposal—He’ll keep her secret if she helps get his family off his back by pretending to be his girlfriend at an upcoming family reunion.

From one reunion to another, Lola and Luke are suddenly spending a lot of time together. Good thing they're only pretending, or this super-secret relationship could get really complicated.

Review

If you are looking for a sweet, heart-touching, lighthearted, and hot romance then this book is perfect for you. It's such a great story, written in a way that it will keep you interested from the very beginning until the end. Also I loved all the characters; Lola, Luke, as well as all the side characters are amazing. I really enjoyed this cute story which made me laugh at times and sigh at others.

Lola's boyfriend broke up with her and she is a mess. So, to cheer her up her roommate decides to crash a high school reunion... One thing led to the other and Lola finds herself agreeing to become someones pretend girlfriend. What seems like a good idea and the time soon turns into something she will live to regret...

Luke finds Lola attractive. She is such a gorgeous woman and has no idea about it. While talking to her he suddenly comes up with this insane idea... Why not ask her to be his pretend girlfriend? That way he can get rid of his family's constant pestering and also will get to spend more time with her. However, he fears that he might end up biting more than he could chew....

I really enjoyed reading Lola and Luke's story. They've perfect chemistry and their story is quite romantic. It was a quick read for me. I'd definitely recommend this book to romance lovers.

P.S. I received a complimentary copy of this book via NetGalley.

Review: Dating for Keeps by Coleen Kwan

Dating for Keeps
Synopsis
Unlucky in love Lily Baker is ready to get back in the dating game. But her first night out ends with the guy ditching her—in the middle of a dance floor. Wonderful. Public humiliation on top of rejection. And worse, Caleb Willmett, the sexy local contractor with an unfortunate desire to remain single, witnessed the whole thing. But where Lily sees disaster, Caleb finds opportunity.

The only long-term relationship Caleb wants is a business partnership with Lily’s father, but the man won’t give him the time of day. If Lily can arrange a meeting for him, Caleb promises to help her find a guy worth dating. Perfect trade. And this should be easy—just look for someone completely opposite of himself, someone who’s willing to settle down.

But when Lily unexpectedly captures his heart, playing matchmaker for her becomes the most difficult job he’s ever done.
Review
It's a great read, I loved the story as well as the characters. Especially, Lilly's character. She has a very unique personality and it is not easy for people to accept her for who she is. An artists at heart and finance expert at profession, she is a mixture of sweet and sassy. For now, she is trying very hard to find her soul mate, someone she will spend the rest of her life with.

Caleb, on the other hand, doesn't believe in happily-ever-afters, he isn't looking for any long-term relationship so he knows that Lilly is not for him. However, he can't help feeling attracted to the quirky and artsy woman. What more, she somehow wakes up his protective instincts. He wants her to find her happiness and stop being rejected by men who don't even deserve her to begin with.

The two strike an unlikely bargain, they both want something the other can help with so it seems right to help each other and get what they hope to achieve... but things do have a tendency to get complicated when opposites are involved. Soon they will want more than they bargained for...

It's a very well-written story. I enjoyed it immensely and would recommend to all romance lovers.

Two years later might as well be two lifetimes.

Sparks don’t just fly, they soar—and threaten to burn down the new life she’s so patiently, persistently, built.

When they’re both invited to join a relief mission in Cambodia, they jump at the chance to help…and be together. As the time and distance between them melts away in the sticky Cambodian heat, Sienna knows her heart can’t take losing him again.

And that’s exactly what might happen.

Add to Goodreads
4.5 Review
The romantic story which started in book one continues in book two. However, the setting is different and the characters are much matured, no less interesting though.

Deni worked hard and finally got his chance to study in USA. Sienna thought she had left him for good, but now here he is ... in her home, in her country, and she can't contain her excitement. Although, her love for him is still the same but now there are many complications. Spider wants more than being her friend, he has been so patient with her and she feels as though she owe him more. Also Deni probably has a wife somewhere in Indonesia. So she decides to just cherish their time together and not worry about the future. After all this is the guy she said yes to when he proposed.

Deni knows that differences between them may very well drift them apart again. But he plans to try his best and may be in the end they could be together somehow. For now they have a mission to worry about. As he accompanies team Hope to Cambodia, he feels as if history is about to repeat itself.

I loved this story just as much as I had loved book one. It's a great read and I think all romance loves will enjoy it, especially if you like stories closer to reality and touching sensitive issues.

Review: Sweet Home Highlander by Amalie Howard & Angie Morgan

Sweet Home Highlander (Tartans and Titans, #1)
Synopsis

Lady Aisla Montgomery has a perfectly tolerable marriage...as long as her husband stays in Scotland and she in Paris. But now, years later, she wants only one thing—a divorce.

Niall Stuart Maclaren, the rugged Laird of Tarbendale rues the day he met his beautiful, conniving wife. Though the thought of her incites a bitter and biting fury, no other woman has ever stirred his blood as hotly. When Aisla returns to Scotland to sever ties, Niall agrees on one condition—one week with him for every year of desertion. Six weeks as his wife in his castle...in his bed...in exchange for her freedom.

Review
I love historical fiction and this book is simply amazing. It's well-written and has some very interesting characters. Especially, I loved both Ailsa and Niall. The story is emotional, full of angst, romantic, and quite humorous at times. I quite enjoyed reading it and would recommend it if you like historical fiction, especially those set in Scotland.

Lady Ailsa hasn't been to Scotland in six years. After her husband told her to leave she just never could return. So she lived in Paris and tried not to think about home or the man who broke her heart. Until her close friend and confidant reminded her of what she has left behind. So now she plans to return to Scotland one last time .... after that hopefully she will be able to move on with her life without the past haunting her every step.

Niall loved his wife and her betrayal hurt deep. No matter how hard he tries he cannot move on with his life. He thinks of her often and still desires her. But she hasn't been home in six years so he is beginning to wonder if she would ever return... and then she did, however, not for the reason he assumed.

After a long time Aisla and Niall are together, living under the same roof and it is obvious that they still have feelings for each other. There is too much unresolved tension between them and they need to deal with it. Maybe this time they will be able to end up happy... or perhaps it will be worse than before and neither will be able to recover from the heartache and betrayal ever again.

It's a beautiful story with lots of minor twists and turns which keep it interesting from the very beginning until the end.
P.S. I received a complimentary copy of this book via NetGalley.

Review: One Night Wife by Ainslie Patton

One Night Wife
Synopsis

Finley Cartwright is the queen of lost causes. That’s why she’s standing on a barstool trying to convince Friday night drinkers to donate money to her failing charity. Hitting on the guy on the next stool wasn’t part of her plan. Still, hot but grumpy venture capitalist Caleb Sherwood might just be her ticket to success.

Professional grifter and modern-day Robin Hood, Cal Sherwood is looking for a partner for a long con. Sexy Fin, doing her best Marilyn Monroe act for her cause, has the necessary qualifications. By the time he cuts her free, her charity would be thriving, and she’d have helped him charm billions out of arrogant, gullible marks to fund his social justice causes.

But just when he thinks he’s about to pull off the best con ever, his feisty new partner gets the upper hand.

Review
This book started really well. I was quite interested in the story but it progressed it became boring to me. I couldn't connect with either character, I think there were a lot of emotional repetitions. Overall the book was focused way too much on the professional side than on the romantic side. However, the ending was interesting. So it has a good start and a good ending, with some boring parts in the middle.

Finley is desperately trying to find donors for her charity. That's how she meets Cal. He offers to help her in finding said donors. In return she has to help him in his business dealings. It all sounded pretty simple and straightforward to her. They pretend to be dating in front of bunch of rich people and talk them into giving them money. And well, it works too. Soon she has enough donations to start her charity work. Would could possibly go wrong?

Cal is a workaholic. His job is his life and Finley is a complication he doesn't need. It becomes more and more difficult for him to stay away from her. In the end he decides to go for it. After all they both love each other so they will make it work. Or so he thinks, but he is in for a surprise...

A good read, I'd recommend it to those who enjoy contemporary romance and don't mind workaholics. It has some really good moments and some cringe worthy scenes, all in all, it's an little above average read.
P.S. I received a complimentary copy of this book via NetGalley.

Review: A Mistress for Penndrake by Tammy L. Bailey

A Mistress for Penndrake
Synopsis

The Marquess of Wesley is out for blood. For a year, Lord Wesley has tried to undo the devastation his father left to Penndrake, their ancestral home, only to discover the man gambled it away right before his death. Now Wesley is being blackmailed by the new owner into marrying a woman he’s never met in order to get it back. But his intentions are less than honorable…

At one and twenty, Miss Kate Holden intends to become a governess, having sworn off all men years ago. However, her plans are halted when she receives a daunting letter from her cousin about a Lord Wesley. Ignorant of the name, and the devilish marquess that wears it all too well, she nearly ends up compromised. Refusing to fall prey to Wesley’s skillful seduction, Kate decides to turn things around on the rake. But the high-stakes game between them soon leads to her losing the last thing she expected…her heart.

Review
I absolutely loved this book. It is exceptionally written story with some amazing characters. I quite enjoyed reading it. I think it's a must read for all historical fiction fans.

It all starts when Miss Holden's cousin decides what is best for her without considering her feelings. But soon after he regrets his actions and writes a letter of warning to her. She doesn't know the whole story so she assumes the worst about Lord Wesley and makes up her mind to stay away from him at all costs. However that won't be so easy for her. Lord Wesley is the most handsome man she has ever met and she feels very attracted to him. No matter how much he tries to remind herself to not to trust him she still feels a pull towards him and simply cannot avoid him...

Lord Wesley is not happy about the letter he received from Edward. He will not let someone else dictate his life so he decides to play a little game of his own. Unfortunately for him, Miss Holden is not the kind of woman one can ruin without consideration. Soon he starts having feelings for her, but he cannot do anything about it. There is no way they can both end up together... either way they will be heartbroken.... Still he is going to try to make things right even if that's the last thing he did!

It's a great novel, definitely worth reading.
P.S. I received a complimentary copy of this book via NetGalley.

Review: On Highland Time by Lexi Post

On Highland Time
Synopsis

For fans of sexy Scottish Highlanders who know how to treat a woman like a lady.

When someone changes history, affecting the future, Diana Montgomery, the most experienced agent of Time Weavers, Inc., travels back to 1306 Scotland to change it back. Her mission, to find the culprit and ensure a minor clan chief dies in battle as he originally had.

Diana is well-prepared to infiltrate the small MacPherson clan. What she’s not prepared for is Torr MacPherson, the ruggedly handsome warrior with a kind heart and a steadfast loyalty—the Laird she’s supposed to ensure dies.
Review
It's a great book, I really loved the story. It's well written and has some very interesting characters. Plot is quite unique and intriguing. I was totally engrossed in the book once I started reading and it was difficult to put it down. I think it's an amazing historical fiction with time travel twist.

Diana is on a mission. She needs to stop history from changing, that is all. She has done this before, as long as she follows the rules things will be fine. However, it seems that this time around following the rules may not be as it as everyone thinks. She is in a place where everyone is friendly and involved with each others lives. In such an environment keeping her feelings detached is becoming a problem. She can't help but feel sympathy, love, and even lust for people around her. Especially, staying away from one person is becoming more and more difficult with each passing day... they have no future because, well, they are from different times. And after all is said and done she must return to her present... leaving everyone else behind... or maybe there is a way around rules?

Torr finds Diana quite attractive. She seems to be an exceptional woman. She is kind and loving. He wants her. However, she is not like his clan's women, she wants him all to herself... that may not be such a good idea. he has to protect his heart. Also, there is something about the lass which seems off. She may not be who she claims to be and he must find out the truth before tragedy strikes his clan once again...

As I said, it's a novel all historical fans will enjoy reading. I'm glad that I got the chance to read it and would recommend it to my friends and followers alike.
P.S. I received a complimentary copy of this book via NetGalley.

Review: The Bashful Bride by Vanessa Riley

The Bashful Bride (Advertisements for Love #2)
Synopsis

A friend's newspaper advertisement for a groom nets the most famous actor in London, Arthur Bex. Shy heiress Ester Croome proposes to elope with the handsome man, who she's secretly loved for two years, in order to escape an impending engagement arranged by her overbearing family.

Trying to outlive the shadow of his villainous uncle, Bex needs to marry quickly—to a woman of good character. And smart, beautiful Ester fits the bill. But a harrowing trip to Gretna Green and dangerous abolition rallies prove to be a more treacherous stage than either imagined. Infatuation and a mutual love for Shakespeare might not be enough to bind a couple looking to outrun the chains and secrets of family and the past.

Review
It's a great story and id beautifully interwoven. All the characters are great and I think the author has given them very interesting pasts, which has given them more depth. I really liked the characters in this novel.

Ester Croome is a sheltered young girl who judges her parents harshly based on what she knows. When her father decided to arrange a marriage for her she rebels. In her rebellion she eloped with someone she admires a lot, but he is not someone she knows well. There is very little that she actually knows about Bex, but to her it doesn't matter. She just wants to marry someone of her choosing rather than her father's. Soon she is going to realise that not everything she knows is true, and there is a lot that she doesn't even know....

Bex's past haunts him. However, he is determined to do better in the present as well as the future. He has secrets that he wants to keep well-hidden. But there are people who are becoming more and more interested in his past. So, he decides to find a bride. Someone who trusts him and vouches for him when the time comes. He is willing to settle with any level-headed woman, who believes in the cause he fights for. When he finds Ester he think that his prayers have been answered. She seems like the person he could build a happy life with... but he doesn't realise that sometimes things get complicated and logic becomes overrated...

They both are in over their heads, but will they survive in this world without losing their sanity is a different story entirely.

I really enjoyed it and would recommend to anyone who loves historical romance. However, it's not usual story about the ton. It shows an entirely different side on London in early 1800s.
P.S. I received a complimentary copy of this book via NetGalley.

He felt he had the favor of the Norns, the three goddesses associated with destiny, that were akin to the Greek gods of fate.
Having the favor of the gods meant success in his goals. He was destined to be Lif, the last man standing, the lone man that would repopulate the earth after Ragnarok. In essence, he would become the new Adam.
The rituals were necessary, an integral part of the process before using the key. Unfolding the linen handkerchief carefully, the ancient bronze key looked nothing like what most would think of as a key. A circular piece, about six inches in diameter spanned from his thumb to the tip of his middle finger. Runic writings along the outside edge written within the form of the great serpent Jormungand, the great dragon conquering the gripping animal grouping in a circular band about two inches wide, the design in the eternal triskell pattern. Inside of that, written in runes was the location of the gjallerhorn. At the center were nine swords pointing to an amber stone, nine strands over an open area, the stone center raised with a square notch in the back. It had to be positioned precisely at the solstice.
