Excerpt:

I opened the box and a circle of sparkling diamonds glistened in the dim light of the hallway. A perfect necklace of crystal-clear jewels the size of peas with a centered diamond the size of a peanut. Fortune in a box that now trembled in my hand.

“Oooh.” The sound proved more of a gasp from my lips than an actual word.

“Turn around,” Max whispered as he grasped the box from me. The intense coffee color in his eyes caught my breath, calming, and yet, unnerving my mind.

I slowly spun away from him and closed my eyes.

Pop.

The sound from the box slapping shut caused me to flinch, and I opened my eyes as his hands lowered in front of me, draping the necklace against my skin.

His fingers tickled the back of my neck while he fastened the clasp. His touch shocked through me and as he stood mere inches behind me, his hot breath breezed across my bare shoulders.

My heart fluttered while the necklace lay against my collarbone. The gold and diamonds hung with an unexpected heaviness.

Max moved around me. “They look stunning on you.”

“Thank you.”

“But then again, I suppose anything would. You’ve been quite the topic downstairs. Everyone wants to know who the mysterious young lady is that Vincent is parading around on his arm.” He paused and clicked his tongue against his lips. “Don’t say that I blame them. I’d want to know, too.”

“Mysterious? No one has ever thought of me as mysterious.”

“I do.”

“Well I have no idea why you would.”

“Is it not obvious to you?”

“What?”

“Not one woman has ever rebuffed Vinny’s affections. They fall to his feet. They desire him because of his clout or because of his money. They are excited when in his company. They love when other women envy them. They’re thrilled, they’re in love, and they gush. And you don’t do any of that.”

A soft laugh snorted through my nose. “Sounds like I’m foolish, instead of mysterious.”

“I’m trained to read people like books.” He heaved a deep sigh. “But with you . . . you’re just like no other book.”

Although, writing always piqued her curiosity, it wasn’t until September 2009 that she worked up the courage to put her passion to paper and started her debut novel.

When she’s not writing, Angela spends her days from dawn to dusk as a stay at home, homeschooling mom. She also works in her garden and takes care of her many farm animals, as well as loves to bake and cook from scratch. She doesn't show horses anymore, but she still loves to trail ride her paint horse, Honky, as well as enjoys teaching her daughters how to ride their horses, Sunny and Cowboy.

Review: A Dance With Seduction by Alyssa Alexander

Synopsis
She was the only code he couldn't break...

Vivienne Le Fleur is one of London’s most sought after opera dancer and one of England’s best weapons: the spy known as the Flower. When a French agent pressures her to change allegiance by abducting her sister, Vivienne is forced to seek the help of the only man in London who doesn’t want her.

Maximilian Westwood, retired code breaker, doesn't like surprises or mysteries and The Flower is both. When she sneaks into his study in the middle of the night with a coded message, he’s ready to push her out whatever window she arrived through. Except Maximilian is unable to turn away a woman in trouble. Determined to rescue Vivienne’s sister, they engage in a game of cat and mouse with French spies that requires all of Vivienne’s training and Maximilian’s abilities. Bound together by secrecy, they discover there is more between them than politics and hidden codes, but love has no place among the secrets of espionage...

Review

It's another amazing historical fiction novel. It's a historical mystery, Maximilian is a retired code-breaker and now he works privately, translating for his clients. Vivienne is a spy, she working with her handle Henri. She has a younger sister to look after and to protect her sister she is willing to do anything. She doesn't trust anyone, but when she finds herself in trouble she must trust Maximilian. Together they must work together, soon realizing that they are attracted to each other, there is so much more to their working arrangement. Secrecy of utmost importance though and they have to be careful of the 'French Vulture.'
The story is full of mystery, intrigue, and spying. About two unlikely allies who are brought together because of the circumstances and now find it difficult to be apart, it's quite an exciting read.
P.S. I received a complimentary copy of this book via NetGalley.

Review: The Importance of Being Scandalous (Tale of Two Sisters #1) by Kimberly Bell

Synopsis

A horse race in trousers on Rotten Row. Visiting a gaming hall in a dress that would make her mother faint. Sneaking an invitation to a masquerade ball attended by only the wickedest, most debauched members of society…

None of these things are scaring off bookish but strong-willed Amelia Bishop’s stuffy, egotistical fiance.

The only thing left is to entice childhood friend Nicholas Wakefield into a truly engagement-ending scandal. The
Wakefields are the height of propriety, and Nicholas’s parents have made it clear a wife from the neighbouring Bishop family would be unacceptable…

But Nicholas would give up his family and his fortune if Amelia would ever see him as more than just a childhood friend. He’ll go along with her scheme, even if it means ruining them both, because he’s got a plan that will change her mind about him being merely the boy next door.

Review

I loved it! It's a well-written story. Characters are also well developed. I especially adored Mia. She is exactly the kind of heroine I love to read about. She is funny, strong, fiercely loyal to those she loves, and a beautiful person inside and out. I think this book is a must reads for historical romance fan, and I'd definitely be recommending it to my friends.

Amelia Bishop has always had feelings for her childhood friend Nicholas. But he doesn't feel attracted to her, she knows that. Therefore, when the first person asks her to marry she says yes. After all she must marry. Because of her sister disability the family has been shunned for too long. This is her mother's chance to re-enter the society. Also her sister wants to live through her so at the time her decision to get married seemed reasonable. Now she isn't so sure. Firstly, her betrothed is not as perfect as he seemed before. Secondly, Nick is back and re-igniting all her feelings for him. May be it will be best for her if she never marries at all. But now it seems that she is stuck with her decision unless she does something truly scandalous.

Nick can't believe Amelia is engaged. He had hopped that he'd finally get a chance to confess his feelings and propose to her. He knows that his parents will never approve of the Bishops but he is in love, has been for a very long time, therefore, he needs to think of his own feelings for once in his life. Apparently it's too late. Soon Mia will be married and he will have to live with his regret. He was a coward, he should have proposed to her a long time ago but he feared his parents disapproval. But soon he realises that things might not be how they seem. May be Amelia is not happy and he can convince her to marry him instead. Although it looks like she has sworn off men altogether. He still hopes to convince her otherwise but first they must get rid of her overbearing fiance and then he can focus on wooing her.

This story is funny, romantic, and highly entertaining. Amelia and Nicholas are both wonderful characters. I really enjoyed reading it.

Review: An Earl for Archeress by E. Elizabeth Watson

Synopsis
Desperate for coin, Lady Mariel Crawford enters an archery contest as a boy but despite her unmatched skill she loses in a tie to the intriguing, frustrating, and very handsome Earl of Huntington. Robert of Huntington seems like any other young philanderer and Mariel, fleeing a cruel father, trusts no man. Yet Robert proves to have a softer side that threatens her resolve to remain alone and unattached.
When Robert bests a young woman at a tourney, his curiosity deepens when he realizes she is the daughter of the ruthless Beast of Ayr. And when he learns that Mariel’s father conspires with the Sheriff of Nottingham Robert is compelled to protect her. Even if it means lying. Even if it means the only way he can save her is by marrying her. He’s willing to lose everything to guard the Scottish wildling who has pierced his heart.
Review

It's one of those books which grab your interest right from the beginning, and you can't help but give it your full attention. The story is very engaging, and it kept me engrossed until the very end. Mariel and Robert are a perfect couple, both living outside of society's rules. Mariel doesn't want to be controlled by men and Robert has no intention of controlling a woman.
Mariel ran away from home to avoid marriage to an English brute. Also she is tired of her father's abusive behavior. Now she must learn to survive on her own, a woman in man's world fending for herself. But so far she is doing just fine. She has avoided being captured by her father, and also kept herself fed. Next step is to get enough money so that she can go far away and never has to fear her father, or any many, ever again.
Robert is intrigued by the woman who claims to be entering Archery contest on her brother's behalf. Soon he finds out her secret but he is even more attracted to her afterwards. He hopes that he can convince her to stay with him. He can provide her with shelter and much more.... but will the stubborn woman agree or not is another question entirely....
I loved it and would be recommending it to all historical fans. It's definitely something worth reading.

Review: My Hellion, My Heart by Amalie Howard, Angie Morgan

Synopsis
He fought battles for crown and country. She waged war for his heart.
Lord Henry Radcliffe, the scarred but sinfully sexy Earl of Langlevit, is a beast. The only way Henry can exorcise the demons of his war-ravaged past is through intense physicality. In and out of bed. An endeavor that has no shortage of willing participants.
Intent on scandalizing London, Princess Irina Volkonsky is a hellion and every gentleman’s deepest desire...except for one. Irina knows better than to provoke the wickedly forbidding earl, but she will stop at nothing short of ruination to win the heart of the only man she’s ever loved.
But when one scandalous kiss makes dangerous passions ignite, neither of them can fight their sizzling attraction. When a sinister plot emerges to threaten them both, they will have to fight one last battle, this time for the ultimate prize...love.
Review

Princess Irina Volkonsky has become one of my most favorite characters. She cannot conform to the society's rules, and loves to cause trouble wherever she goes. After spending some time in France, and breaking numerous hearts, she is back in London. There are many young gentlemen vying for her hand in marriage, but the only one she wants doesn't pay any attention to her. she will make him notice her no matter what.
She is the most beautiful woman in Town, and no longer the little girl Lord Henry Radcliffe knew. It is becoming more and more difficult to resist her. Will he be able to stay away for long. Knowing that he must marry soon, and she is definitely not the kind of woman he wants as his wife, she is too innocent, and doesn't know what kind of a man her really is. But she is also the only one he can't stop thinking about. Will they be able to make things work or are they making a mistake? No matter, they must try because resisting each other is just not possible any more....
The book is very well-written, with twists and turns which will keep readers on their toes. I enjoyed reading it a lot and hope that others do too.
P.S. I received a complimentary copy of this book via NetGalley.

Cover Reveal: Drunk Dial by Penelope Ward

We are excited to bring you the upcoming standalone from New York Times, USA Today, and #1 Wall Street Journal Bestselling author Penelope Ward.
DRUNK DIAL will release on AUGUST 21!

Cover designer: Letitia Hasser, RBA designs
Cover Model: Vadim Ivanov
Cover Photography: Kevin Roldan
From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new, sexy standalone novel. It seemed like a good idea at the time. Look up Landon Roderick, that boy from childhood whom I’d never been able to forget—even though he so easily forgot about me—and call him. Then again, anything sounds like a good idea when you’ve had a little too much wine before bed, right? It was supposed to be just a quick, meaningless, prank call. Instead, I went off on him—unloading thirteen years of pent-up emotions. I didn’t think he’d call me back. I certainly could never have anticipated the weeks of sexually tense phone conversations that followed as I got to know the man he’d become. Turned out, Landon had never really forgotten me, either. That special connection we had was still there. I opened up to him, but there were also things about me he didn’t know. And he had his own secrets. Over the countless hours we talked on the phone, I wondered what would happen if we actually saw each other. One night, I did something impulsive again. Only this time, I went to the airport and booked a ticket to California. We were about to find out if one phone call could bring two lost souls together or if my drunk dial really was all just a big mistake. A complete STANDALONE.
(No Amazon e-book preorder. Will go live on/around release day.)

Penelope Ward is a New York Times, USA Today, and #1 Wall Street Journal Bestselling author of thirteen novels. With over a million books sold, her titles have placed on the New York Times Bestseller list sixteen times. She is the proud mother of a beautiful 12-year-old girl with autism (the inspiration for the character Callie in Gemini) and a 10-year-old boy. Penelope, her husband, and kids reside in Rhode Island.

Review: The Prodigal by Shauna Allen

Synopsis

~ Five brothers, one family tragedy, untold heartache. ~

I’ve always been the quiet one. The brother no one noticed.
When my sister disappeared, it was easy to disappear right along with her, losing myself to my own personal hell and hidden pain, unable to face a life that didn’t make sense anymore—unable to face a family that no longer felt whole.
I hunted and searched until I found my way out. Driven by my need to understand who or what took my sister from us, I learned all I could about the human brain, becoming an FBI Criminal Behavior Analyst. This is what has led me directly into the path of the monster who might hold the key to our family’s greatest pain . . . and straight back to the woman who I thought I’d never see again.
I met Tenley Cooper on a whim. One weekend of freedom. One weekend where I lost the pain that chained me down. One weekend that I lived the sweetest of lies—a lie that has come back to haunt me in the best possible way.
What does it take to bring the prodigal son home?
The truth.
My name is Joshua Creed.
I am The Prodigal.

***Reader note: This is the fourth of a 6-part emotional family saga series. Each story is 100% male first-person point-of-view, and while each full-length novel is guaranteed to have a complete HEA romance, their family mystery remains unsolved until the end of the series.
***Due to profanity, graphic subject matter, and very strong sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

Review

'The Family Creed' is one of those series which keeps getting better and better with each new book. I absolutely loved Joshua's story. His grief has driven him to be one of the best profiler is FBI. His goal is find what happened to his baby sister all those years ago. It might now be easy but it is something he needs to do, and he will find out the truth...
He moved away right after college and now he is back. But it's still about work. No matter how important family is to him, his work will always come first because that's what keeps him going. The thought that one day he might be able to get his sister justice, her soul some peace, and his family closure. And now is his chance...
He is back only a few days when he learns something that will change his life forever, for good. He never thought he would find love, but he has. Things will change for him very soon. May be for his entire family, but one thing remains the same... their love for each other, and their will to be there for each other in hour of need...
This book is simply amazing. Although a very emotional read, still it will warm your heart. It's such a sweet, sad tale of love, grief, and hope... definitely a must read if you like contemporary fiction.

Tour Stop + Review + Giveaway: In the Pursuit of Charity by Alexandria Sure

Title: In the Pursuit of Charity
Author: Alexandria Sure
Genre: New Adult –college/sports
Publisher: Beaumont Tower Press
Editor: Richelle McFate
Cover Designer: Jake Sager
Hosted by: Lady Amber's PR
Blurb:
He expected her to recognize him.
He expected her to be seduced by his charms.
He expected her to fall for him.
Expectations are a funny thing …
When his parents named him Herbert Lincoln James, they already had expectations that Linc would attend an ivy league university and go into politics. Linc didn't. As captain of his swim team, he was expected to win the big relay to carry his swim team to the state championship for the first time in decades. Linc didn’t. Society expected him to walk past her. He couldn’t.
She expected him to see through her.
She expected him to make her into a joke.
She expected him to be cruel.
Expectations are a funny thing …
It's an interesting story, but not what I expected though. Still I liked it well enough. Linc and Alexis are two people who are most unlikely to fall in love. Linc is an athlete and spends most of his time in swimming pool. Alexis is total opposite, she spends most of her time in a coffee shop reading, and also she is larger than most women. Someone like Linc can't possibly find her attractive...

But he does. Linc can't seen to get her out of his mind. She is all he thinks about from the day he heard her laugh. She is so different from all those girls he has dated, and the ones who want to date him. Now he must convince her to go out with him, be with him, because he can't seem to function properly without her in his life...

Alexis likes Linc but she also knows that he is just passing time with her. His friends are all out of town and it's cool to hang out with him for now. She knows once his friends return he will disappear. Or may be she will disappear before he does... after all she has to protect herself from getting hurt. She can't be "charity" of anyone.

I think that the real story hasn't started yet. But when it does it'll be awesome. :) So far I enjoyed reading about Linc and Alexis. Both characters are great. I just didn't like to be so much inside Linc's head though. That was disconcerting at times. Other than that it's a great read.
Alexandria Sure is from Michigan and adores her supportive family, her two rescue pups, and her mighty Spartans. Her coffee obsession leads her to writing in local coffee shops where characters come alive between salted caramel lattes and large cups of "cold brew extra cream two Splenda," which are usually on the counter when she walks in because the baristas know her car. (Thanks, Biggby!)
When she is not writing, she spends a great deal of her time perfecting her craft. She is an active member of Capital City Writers Association and attends several writing conferences each year.
Sure's first novel, Before Him Comes Me, is an unconventional romance of self-discovery, described by readers as "the first BDSM book with no sex."

Review: Hate to Love Him (Kendrick Place #3) by Jody Holford

Synopsis

Brady Davis is as happy as he is charming. Usually. Unless he’s in the same room with the frustratingly gorgeous antidote to his cheer. Mia Kendrick is headstrong and determined. She’s done with men who stand in her way—even if he has arms like Thor and a smile that makes her dizzy. Whenever they’re together, sparks fly—both the bad and good kind.

When Mia returns home to take over management of Kendrick Place, Brady is worried her focus on big business could be the end of his tight-knit home and the family he’s created there. Mia may have the power to change everything, but Brady could have the power to change her mind…if he can get inside her heart.

Review

It's a fun, lighthearted read. Mia comes from a rich family but money doesn't equate happiness. Her family has never accepted her as she is. Her father and brother think she cannot be part of business just because she is a woman. After her grandmother intervened her father give her six months to run one of their residential buildings and prove herself. So she has a lot at stake to make Kendrick Place profitable.

Brady knows that for some people money is everything. A business woman is going to make everything about profit. Suffice it to say that he doesn't trust Mia at all. And he isn't willing to give her a chance. They both dislike each other and that's fine with him. Until his best friends started talking about her positively and he realises that he has been misjudging her. She is not an entitled snob, in fact she might be most kind hearted woman he has known.

Now they 're both going to try and be friends. It won't be easy but at least they can begin to stop hating each other so much and take it from there.... soon they even start linking one another... and may be even end up falling for each other.... but will they work, two people from such different backgrounds, they don't seem right together or may be that's what make them a perfect couple.

It's quite enjoyable story. Characters are good too. I think that any contemporary reader will like it.
