Tour Stop + Giveaway: Claiming the She-Wolf by Louisa Bacio

Black Hills Wolves
Claiming the She-Wolf by Louisa Bacio
When her older brother leaves the Black Hills to go to college, Tala Graystone stays behind, determined to restore their dilapidated home into a B&B for the pack. As more people return to the area, the need for temporary housing increases. Now, if only she can find someone to help with the heavy lifting.
Yas Collins fled Los Lobos as a child with his mother. As he struggles with his wolf and overpowering shifts, a desire for nature and the forest strikes hard. Black Hills, South Dakota, beckons him. With a background in construction, he easily finds work at Tala’s dilapidated B&B, but not everyone in town greets him with open arms.
As the remodel gets underway, Tala and Yas fight their growing attraction. Yas doesn’t trust his wolf urges around beautiful B&B owner. The she-wolf, however, has other plans.

Excerpt from Claiming the She-Wolf:

A growl from low in his throat threatened to escape. The rumble started in his chest, and he fought to keep it down.
She turned, looking down at him. “Did you say something?”
“Umm, no. Just clearing my throat.”
He needed to get his base instincts under control. Recent research showed that wolves in the wild killed in order to protect their domains and to get more space. He didn’t want to be ruled by his wolf. He’d grown up in the city, with humans, not out in the forest. His mom had tried to talk to him about shifting, but as a woman, she didn’t have the same experience.
He couldn’t go to a shifters anonymous group for help with his sexual urges. Maybe he needed to start his own support group. He snorted at the idea. At the top of the landing, Tala turned to the right, and he followed.
They entered what had to be the master bedroom suite. It was painted a vibrant lavender color, and the bed had a green floral comforter with an abundance of fluffy throw pillows. White dollies rested on the two nightstands, and a vase of wildflowers called for attention. The feminine room seemed in sharp contrast to his host. She didn’t look frilly.
“This will be your quarters.” Her lips pursed, and she blinked a few times.
The idea shocked him. “What? I’m sorry, but it looks like your room.”
“Well, it has been. But it’s the nicest room in the house, and as a guest, figure you should have it to be comfortable. I’ll move my things into another one.”
He waved his hands in front of him, as if shooing away something physically bad. “No way. No can do. Give me the second best, then. My first job can be fixing it up.”
She smiled. “Well, second best would be my brother’s room, and even though he’s on a trip right now, I don’t feel comfortable moving his stuff. So third best, and we work today to make it more, um, livable?”
Her choice of words made him pause. “Deal.”

Review: Crazy Over You by Wendy Sparrow

Crazy Over You (Entangled Select Otherworld)

Synopsis

She's on the sheriff's most wanted list.

Waking up with a naked woman holding a knife at his throat is just about the last thing Sheriff Travis Flynn expected. And the brother she's looking for? A murderer. And dead. Probably. But the real shock comes when she insists she's not a Lycan.

LeAnn Wilcox isn't looking for love...especially not from some wolf in sheriff's clothing. She operates on the other side of the law. Once she finds her brother-alive-she'll get out of the pack's territory and go back to her regular, normal, non-furry life of changing jobs and her name whenever her past closes in.

The cool, logical Sheriff has finally met his match, but LeAnn's life is at stake if she won't claim her place in the pack, especially once his control over the pack is challenged and her brother's fate is questioned.

5-Stars Review

This book hilarious. If you want to read about "crazy" Lycans then this one is definitely for you. It made me laugh so much. The story is a beautiful mess, things keep happening out of the blue and keep readers on their toes. You know that something is not right but you can't figure out what it is until the very end. I loved the way its written, plot is good but the best part is all the crazy conversations between Travis and LeAnn. Absolutely loved it!

LeAnn has come to look for her brother. She is following a trail which, she thought, will lead her to him but instead it leads her to local Sheriff. Then she finds out things about her brother she doesn't like. She is unwilling to trust Travis and still determined to find what she came for. Although things may not be as simple as she would like them to be and there seems to be something else going on here. She ends up being in the middle of it all. Travis knows that LeAnn is his soul mate now all he needs to do is convince her and make her see the truth. Oh and he also has whole pack to think about...
Things are never boring around Travis and LeAnn and I enjoyed reading their story.

But with every moment Trula resists, Zeke falls into greater danger.

For his investigation into the haunted city and madam doesn't just risk his heart but both their lives.

4-Stars Review

Haunting Desire is a suspenseful novel. A murderer is prowling the streets and no one knows how to catch him. He is targeting men near whore houses. That is bad for business hence madam Trula takes it upon herself to solve this mystery of brutal killings. But will she able to catch culprit or just get hurt in the process?

Through out the novel I tried to guess who this killer could be and the answer was completely unexpected. This book is full of intrigue, romance and tragedy as well. I loved all the characters, their background stories made them all the more interesting. Book is well written, it was a real treat.

Review: Risk Me (Silver Strands #2) by Lexi Scott

Risk Me

Synopsis

For Cohen Rodriguez, getting dumped by his girlfriend was bad enough. Being told he's “not impulsive enough” was just the cheap parting gift. Still, he takes a break from his über responsible ways and dates his way through Silver Strand. Except it's not exactly turning out the way he thought...

On top of that, there's Maren Walshe, whose combination of sexy and down-to-earth is everything Cohen wants in a girl. But while they've recently been talking on the phone and texting every day, they've never actually met. Now Maren wants to meet. In person.

Faced with turning his oh-so-safe fantasy girl into an uncertain reality, Cohen and Maren are both about to dive head first, ready or not.

4-Stars Review

This is a story about taking chances, letting go of the past and moving forward. First half of the book is light-hearted, full of humour and a lot of texting. Maren and Cohen talk on phone almost everyday. They are co-workers, both love their daily phone call but never tell that to each other. Cohen is in a committed relationship and Maren's life is a mess. Then circumstances led them to actually meet and its infatuation at first sight. Cohen wants to date her but Maren is not ready as her life is too complicated to involve another person. What she doesn't know is that Cohen will not rest until he get what he wants, in this case its her.

The second half of the book has more serious tone as we get to know Maren's past and what's holding her back. But together they both can overcome every single hurdle in their way. They can solve every problem only if they believe in each other and accept help.
The story is well-written and I liked all characters. It was a fun and entertaining read.

Review: A Touch of Chardonnay by Pamela Gibson

A Touch of Chardonnay

Synopsis
Cultural archeologist Lindsay Reynoso is in a small seaside town in California to evaluate an old mansion. When the home's owner shows up to “help” the evaluation along, Lindsay is furious. Especially as the owner is former bad-boy tennis star Christopher Brandt…her one-time fling and the father of Lindsay's son. Only he doesn't know it.

As far as Chris is concerned, the old mansion is tied to a past he's better off leaving behind. He'd rather bulldoze the thing and move on. If only his gorgeous consultant would let him. Even while fighting over the demolition, the chemistry that once brought them together is smoldering stronger than ever.

But honesty is very important to Chris, and Lindsay has an eight-year-old secret…

4-Stars Review

Another amazing novel, I really liked it. Although it was little predictable but otherwise very well-written with a good story line. Lindsay is an archeologist and she is working on a project. She is passionate about her work and like preserving the history. Chris is in a developing business, he builds new things. He is looking forword to demolish this old mansion he inherited but a lot will depend on Lindsay's report. whe they both finally meet things get interesting. Their is somethings Chris doesn't know about her and she wants to keep it that way. The only problem is that Chris is not willing to let her go easily and she is having a hard time being with him when there is this secret between them. This was a quick and light read, a good book for romance lovers.

Excerpt

"Make a sound and you'll get another spanking," Alexander says. His tone is firm but light. Unlike the last time, he doesn't sound angry or disappointed with me. Is this how our lovemaking will be?

I'm both aroused and craving more of Alexander's affection. I bury my face into the pillow, trying my best not to make any noise. I moan quietly as his lashings grow harder, burning against my skin, making me wet. I'm glad Alexander's attention is on me. There's something about his power and control that fires me up inside. Is he doing this to teach me a lesson for being naughty or to arouse me?

"No, Hannah." Alexander's answer is both quick and abrupt. "I'm the only one in charge.

Maybe I should spank you both regularly for sneaking around the castle, behind my back. Would that make sure it doesn't happen again?" Alexander lets his hand land hard on my bottom. The sting grows fierce and I whimper in protest. When will his spankings turn to sex? He offered it to me the last time and I rejected him. It had been the only amount of control that I'd been given. Tonight, I would give him everything, and if he asked me to beg, I would.

With new villains and old allies on the horizon, and chaos brewing on William’s home world, will self-sacrifice prove to be the only way for him to achieve victory and defend his love, or is there another way?
The follow-up to the debut Award-winning novel PROTOSTAR!

Review

The story of two star-crossed lovers continues in this second book. It is just as exciting as previous book. William and Sydney's relation develops further but not everything is as it should be. Firstly, Sydney is having hard time dealing with going back to school and seeing Jeff again. Her behaviour is very unpredictable and there might be more to it then what meets the eye. Secondly, threat to her life is not over and there is very real imminent danger. William has vowed to protect her but will he be able to is another question entirely.

Across the galaxy and war is being waged. And hence thrill continues. Not a single boring moment in this awesome read. It kept me on my toes and second guessing everything. Ending was simply epic, I think it is a must read for sci-fic fans especially if you have read book one then you don't want to miss it. With well-developed characters, action, a little bit of mystery and a lot of drama & thrill, this book is highly entertaining. I am glad I get the chance to read it.

Synopsis:
THE COMPLETE POSSESSED SERIES

Possessed - Part One

My boss is an asshole.
I’d take off my heels and throw them at his face, if they weren’t so expensive.

Why? Because my boss, the sexy, billionaire bad boy Leo King, wants me to be his wife.

That’s right. His wife. Except, it isn’t real. It’s all pretend so his family believes it, and I’m supposed to go along with it.

Asshole doesn’t even begin to describe him, and it’s only going to get worse. Especially because his cocky attitude and sudden interest in my private life make it difficult to concentrate on something other than his sexual innuendos. I always do what he wants, and we both know it. It’s not like I have a choice. Agree or get fired.

I’m going to need a drink … Or twenty.

Possessed - Part Two

I thought it couldn’t get any worse when my boss, the billionaire bad boy Leo King, blackmailed me into becoming his fake wife. Turns out he has secrets up his sleeve that put a whole new spin on the word douchebag.

Not only did he put my job on the line, my heart has now also become his playground. He seduced me once, but I refuse to fall for his lies again.

If only I had enough chocolate to distract me from his sexy presence. Something tells me he won’t give up the fight to claim me again.

Is he really only into one-night stands or is he lying to get into my pants? Only one way to find out ... Time to buy more booze.

Possessed Part Three

My boss, the billionaire bad boy Leo King, not only tricked me into being his fake-wife, but the dirty secret he’s been keeping from me is now also exposed.

I can’t believe I fell for his lies, and worse, I still want him. He says he loves me, but does that fix everything?

The joke is on me. His crazily hot presence is impossible for me to deny. Fighting temptation or risking it all; the choice is simple, but the consequences are tough.

However, when new revelations threaten to break us apart, there is only one thing I can do: Stock up on chocolate and sit this fucker out until the end.

Review: The Player Next Door by Kathy Lyons

The Player Next Door

Synopsis

An unexpected catch...

NBA star Mike Giamaria doesn't mix basketball with love. Ever. Then Mike meets Tori Williams, his cute, quirky new neighbor who seems hell bent on refurbishing her death trap of a house on her own. When she falls from her roof and into his arms, Mike knows he's just caught a whole heap of trouble.

Trouble sums up Tori's life. Despite her academic success, no one believes she can take care of herself-not her family, not her ex-boyfriend. She's determined to live her life on her own terms, and if that includes a hot summer fling with the super-sexy athlete next door, so much the better.

But when Tori's around, Mike can't keep his mind on basketball. He wants...more. And to his horror, not just more time on the court. When training starts, it's game over-it has to be-unless Tori can convince Mike that love doesn't belong on the sidelines.

4-Stars Review

This book is so funny. I couldn't stop laughing the whole time. I loved Tori's humour. Mike wasn't bad either and together they were just perfect. A great book for romance readers.
Tori has recently moved to a house she inherited and now she is working on its remodeling. Mike is a player who moved next door to her. They both become friends but they are attracted to each other. Tori thinks its a good idea to have a summer fling, Mike agrees, what they didn't know is that once they started seeing each other they will not be able to stop when the summer is over. They are perfect match and I loved reading their story. It was interesting and very entertaining. A sweet, light and cute summer read.

Review: The Highlander's Choice by Callie Hutton

The Highlander's Choice (Marriage Mart Mayhem, #5)

Synopsis

The Scottish Highlands, 1815

Lady Sybil Lacey is every inch an English woman. She's horrified her best friend is wedding a barbarian Scot. For aren't Scots naught but brutish, whiskey-swilling lechers? So to find herself secretly attracted to the tall and devastatingly handsome Scottish laird of Bedlay Castle is quitedisconcerting...

Liam MacBride is convinced that English ladies are silly sassenachs who think of nothing but social events and clothes. So why is he intensely drawn to Lady Sybil? All they do is quarrel . . . until loathing turns into undeniable lust.

A tempestuous, fiery romance between an English lady and a Scottish laird cannot end well.

5-Stars Review

A beautiful historical romance love about an English lady and a Scott Laird. Story line is very good and well executed. All characters are well-developed and will keep readers interested. I couldn't put it down once I started reading. It is full of humour and romance between two very unlikely people. Sybil has very low opinion about Scottish "barbarians", she did not expect that she will like let alone love one of them. Things weren't so different for Liam either. He was brought up with hatred for English "princesses" and never thought he would marry one of them. But they both were proved wrong. After getting to know each other, it was very hard for them to resist the attraction they felt.

When Liam invited Sybil to visit his home things didn't go their way. His mother was unable to overlook her hatred for English women. She treated her badly and made sure that Sybil knew exactly how unwelcome she was there. Sybil already had her doubts about accepting Liam's proposal and after his mother's behaviour it became even more clear that they were both not meant to be together...

I absolutely loved this book. I think it is a must read for all historical romance lovers. I can't wait to read more from this author.

Review: The Prince's Runaway Lover by Robin Covington

The Prince's Runaway Lover (Entangled Indulgence) (Men of the Zodiac)

Synopsis

Waiting for a new Men of the Zodiac romance from Indulgence? Meet Libra...
Sign: Libra
He's hot, irresistible...and he will always make sure you're satisfied.
Crown Prince Nicholas Lytton was never supposed to be ruler of Callanos. He was the "spare to the heir," pursuing a decadent life of the rich and royal - extreme sports, physical pleasures, and glorious irresponsibility. Until his brother died. Now Nick is to be coronated king, and no one believes he's ready.
The best way to secure his crown is to do the unthinkable...find a queen.
While Isabel Reynolds works in the palace gardens, she has no desire to draw the attention of the way-too-flirty, would-be king. For she's not the woman everyone thinks she is. Even if she wanted - or was tempted by - the promise of love, it would only end in disaster. Because while Isabel may be able to catch a king, her secrets would only destroy him...

5-Stars Review

I loved it! It is sweet and touching story, full of romance and love. When his brother died in an accident Nicholas had to take the role of king. He never thought that he would actually be taking the throne. After all it was his brother's place to rule their country. Now that he is put in this situation he must prove himself worthy of becoming next king. It is not an easy task, he is not diplomatic and always say whatever is on his mind. In addition to all this he is seeing "the help". Isabel is a Gardener working in the Palace. The moment Nick saw her he became enchanted by her beauty and free spirit. The often run together and now he thinks that he is falling in love with her. But she might not be the person he thinks she is. She has her own secrets that could jeopardise his plans for himself and his country.

Story is beautifully written, it portrays internal struggle which Nick faced after his brother's demise. He must accept his new role and comes to term with a lot of things related to it. He must try to appease his mother's expectations and he must find a way to keep Isabel in his life somehow. all in all he have to find a balance between his personal life and his royal duties. I recommend it to all romance lovers. This book is definitely for you.

Review: Treasure, Darkly (Treasure Chronicles #1) by Jordan Elizabeth Mierek

Treasure, Darkly (Treasure Chronicles, #1)

Synopsis

Seventeen-year-old Clark Treasure assumes the drink he stole off the captain is absinthe… until the chemicals in the liquid give him the ability to awaken the dead.

A great invention for creating perfect soldiers, yes, but Clark wants to live as a miner, not a slave to the army—or the deceased. On the run, Clark turns to his estranged, mining tycoon father for help. The Treasures welcome Clark with open arms, so he jumps at the chance to help them protect their ranch against Senator Horan, a man who hates anyone more powerful than he.

Sixteen-year-old Amethyst Treasure loathes the idea of spending the summer away from her bustling city life to rot on her father’s ranch, but when a handsome young man shows up claiming to be her secret half-brother, her curiosity is piqued. He’s clever, street smart, and has no qualms jumping into the brawl between the Treasures and Horans. Caught in the middle, Horan kidnaps Amethyst, and all she gets is this lousy bullet through her heart.

When Clark brings her back to life, however, the real action starts, and Amethyst joins him in his fight against the Horan clan—whatever the cost. Defeating the Horans may seem easy at first, but going up against men with the same fighting vengeance as Clark, and a Senator with power he’s obtained by brainwashing the masses?

Well, Amethyst’s boring summer at home has turned into an adventure on the run, chock full of intrigue, danger, love, and a mysterious boy named Clark.

4-Stars Review
It is an interesting fantasy novel, full of intrigue and adventure. Clark and Amethyst are both very ineteresting characters. I liked this story and hope to read more of it.

Clark's mother is dead and he is now a wanted man. Army is after him so the only way he can protect himself is to become someone else. He tries to hide for a while then decides to sought out his father who is a very wealthy man and his name will protect him from becoming an "experiment". It turns out that he has half-siblings too. His brothers are not happy to see their fathers bastard but his sister becomes instantly interested in him. She craves adventure and gets bored easily. To her Clark is an amusement in dull western life.

Things get more interesting after their encounter with the Horans. Apparently there is a lot more going on than they realised and now its upto Clark and Amethyst to not only defeat the Horans but also protect themselves.

There are many things I liked about this book. They story is very entertaining, well-written and amusing in many ways. Amethyst is quite a character, not easy to like but she grows on you after a while. Many things don't make sense in the begining but as story progresses things start to get more clear and it becomes more and more difficult to put it down. And the best thing is that there is more to come. I can't wait for the next book.

Displaying button review.jpg

I haven't read first two books so it was a little difficult for me to connect with the characters. Other than that it was a great read. Story flowed perfectly, there were some twists and turns and ending was good too. There are some steamy and romantic scenes which make it all the more fun to read.
Lauren's ex-fiance framed her for an insurance scam. She spent a night in prison and now she must stay within the city limits until trial. Things are nor easy for her. She is away from her boyfriend and long distance relationship is making her insecure. She is second guessing everything she knows about Aedyn.
Aedyn loves Lauren and will do anything for her. He doesn't care that she is accused of scam because he knows that she has done nothing wrong. He wants to be with her but his business dealings are keeping him in Chicago. still whenever he gets the chance he comes to see Lauren.
All in all it is a good book for romance lovers. But I recommend that you read first two books before starting this one. I'm going to read those next. :)

Living in Southern California, but a mid-westerner at heart, I find plenty of inspiration for my books in my own exciting life. I have always loved the arts and as a young girl, I took dance classes and spent the summers reading books from the local library. Fascinated with the written word and its power to guide the imagination, I started writing short stories and later took Creative Writing classes in college. I graduated from The University of Iowa with a B.A. in Journalism and an M.A. in Higher Education. I also have a Teaching Credential from Chapman University in Southern California.

The WILD Boys are back! USA Today Bestseller Angel Payne continues the hotter-than-hot series with this sensual story featuring CIA special agent Daniel Colton.
A scarred hero... Dan Colton was once the CIA’s golden boy, a get-things-done cowboy who believed forgiveness was better to ask for than permission. But performing the devil’s work was always easy with his angel’s face, a damn good asset to have whether he was charming agency superiors…or training submissives in his dark dungeon role plays.
Until his face was taken away.
An act of ultimate bravery has spit Colton back out as a bitter shell, unsure how to relate to the world without his physical calling card. His only condolence is dreaming of revenge on the bastard responsible for the fire that disfigured him, but when that plan backfires, he is a beast without prey—tormented by a beauty he cannot touch.
A willing submissive... Tess Lesange, known around the CIA’s Vegas office as “The Laser”, has only one Achilles heel—in the form of the brooding agent who once wouldn’t give her the time of day. Since Dan Colton’s accident, they’ve become friends, even trusting each other with some of their kinkier secrets. What are friends for, right?
Wrong.
A dangerous masquerade... Now Dan has become Tess’s greatest joy, toughest torment, and most sinful desire. Thoughts of surrendering to his rough brand of domination consume her, but Dan thinks of her as nothing more than the brainy analyst in the next office over.
Still seeking the submissive dream, Tess takes matters into her own hands and journeys in disguise to one of the desert’s most elicit kink clubs. When the Dominant she meets there is also beneath a mask, his voice so alluring and familiar, she wonders if karma has conspired to fulfill one of her deepest fantasies…and what price she’ll have to pay for it come true. Is she willing to sacrifice everything she’s built in a friendship with Dan, for one unforgettable night in his dungeon?

An interesting story which revolves around an alpha hero and his perfect-match. Although I haven't read other books in this series but that did not stop me from loving this book. It can be read as stand alone. It is well-written and all the characters are well-developed. There are some twists but mostly story flows smoothly. It is full of hot, steamy romance. Dan and Tess make a perfect couple and I liked reading about them. The best thing was that they were friends more than anything else. They both value their friendship but also couldn't deny the attraction between them. What more, they like the same things so it was inevitable that they end up together. Although not my usual kind of book, I am glad that I got the chance to read it. I think I just found my next favourite series, can't wait to read all the books I have missed.

Dan has not been the same person, since the fire. He saved a nurse but also got burned and scarred for life. He has avoided his usual kind of "scene" and going out with a sweet girl. But as expected things didn't go well for long. He needs more. Tess is his friend. They share every thought and every feeling with each other. Still he had no idea that she wants him to be her Dom. It came as a total surprise. Tess has a huge crush on him but she is afraid of rejection. When she does manage to tell him, he reacted exactly the way she has expected and in the end they decided to be just friends, nothing more. But when Dan saw her in a club he frequents, all bets are off. He cannot imagine her being with anyone else but him.

A beautiful story about a disfigured person, who is beautiful in the inside and a woman who knows what she wants and willing to do anything to get it. They both complete each other. Their story was definitely worth reading.

“Little rose.” Tess jumped out of her chair. Literally. Not that it had been a particularly comfortable chair. She’d found another wingback in the second of Catacomb’s living room areas, hoping she’d have better results in here at the whole calm-down-and-talk-to-somebody-dammit efforts. And did all that go for you, missie? Did changing rooms help you escape one drop of the feeling that you’ve showed up at Prom without a date, three damn nights in a row? She’d given herself until eleven o’clock to get the stick out of her ass and strike up a conversation with somebody, or just leave. No use sticking around until midnight when she didn’t even have mice, a pumpkin, and glass slippers to worry about. And all of a sudden, her fairy godmother of BDSM had gotten a huge clue. And delivered a prince who defied her wildest, kinkiest dreams. And not because he instantly reminded her of Dan. Get off the Colton crazy train! Now! It was his hair. It looked so much like Dan’s dark blond waves, she was initially captivated—though her perception was likely hindered by the thick velvet strings from his mask, tossing all kinds of shadows through his thick style. And about that mask… Dear God. Sometimes great minds really did think alike. Though it covered half his face and transformed his eyes into daunting mysteries, she tilted a little smile. She was looking for daunting, right? She’d just had no idea how much. And one look at this man, powerful and beautiful and looming before her in nothing but his huge black boots, faded jeans, and that mask, revealed he probably had a doctorate in daunting. She’d only concentrated on his covered parts so far, too. The face she couldn’t quite decipher. The legs, endless and powerful, converging at a bulge beneath his zipper that stripped the moisture from her throat. But everything else was… Dear God. It bore repeating. Probably out loud. If she could only figure where the hell all her air had gone. He was beautiful. Almost unreal. She’d only had this sensation a few times in her whole life, like the moment she’d gazed at her first Michelangelo statue in Rome, or gasped at a Cirque performer who supported three others in his palm. His lean but rock-hard build emphasized every captivating striation of his muscles: the hard ropes of his neck, the shoulders and arms that rivalled Red Rock for ridges, the abdomen that was another mountain range all on its own, as well. He moved a little closer to her with grace that reminded her of an eagle’s flight, deadly force honed for efficiency and grace. Was he even real? She yearned to reach out and learn that answer for herself. She’d never been more afraid to move in her life. She cleared her throat. Tried to straighten her stance—but then wondered if she should lower her head, instead. Or bow. Or curtsy? Or shake his hand? Hell. She was the girl who’d read every damn research book on dungeon etiquette, right? But now she really did feel like the girl at the prom with toilet paper attached to her heel. “Hi,” she finally managed. “I—I mean hello. Hello, Sir. I—I mean—” If she really had something to say after that, it would’ve have disappeared as soon as he lifted her hand between both of his and stepped closer, as if trying to figure her out more fully. His skin was firm and warm, his grip a steady command his eyes still impossible to read. “Ssshhh. Breathe, red.” Red. Though she liked playing up the unique color of her hair, she always cringed when someone used the too-typical nickname. But on his lips, the words were transformed into something new. Magical. “Breathe. Right. Okay…right. God. I am so sorry. You must think I’m so—” She injected a weak laugh. “I’m normally better at the whole stringing-a-sentence-together thing, I promise.” Why was she blowing this so bad? And why did he make it worse with his disarming grin and his tightening hold? And the simple force of his presence. And the intensity of his nearness. And the potency of his scent. How could the combination of Scotch and dust suddenly smell so incredible? “Why are you sorry? I’m the one who intruded.” “Oh, yeah. ‘Intruded.’” She blew out a pseudo raspberry. “Because there was so much going on here in my corner to intrude on.” “There would have been.” His mutter edged so close to an animal’s timber, she shivered a little. Tess had listened to enough radio spy chatter over the years to know the small disc on his neck was a voice distorter of some sort, which should have raised her wariness—instead, it only added to his allure. Her pulse thrummed, a current strange yet wonderful. While she felt at once safe, she also knew she shouldn’t…not this much, not this fast. The conflict only hastened to her reckless heartbeat, especially as he added, “Then I would’ve had to bounce a few skulls together.” “Why?” She knew how stupid it sounded. The possessive snarl beneath his words spoke enough meaning for anyone to figure out—except, perhaps, for her. The “protective” thing was usually her gig, a default when one was looking out for sisters who were “the pretty one” and “the smart ass,” so grasping the concept that anyone wanted to look after her in the same way… Weird. Very weird. But ohhh…so nice. Really nice. Still, she braced herself for his teasing chuckle. Maybe some sarcastic quip at what a “silly subbie” she was for not comprehending his intent. Once more, the man turned her expectations sideways. No. Fully upside-down. Her senses careened as he released a hand, lifting it to her jaw, yanking up her whole face for the focus of his fathomless gaze. “Why?” he repeated. “Because I’m pretty well set on having you all to myself tonight, rose.” His fingers pressed in. “Unless you aren’t interested in what you see?” She laughed. She couldn’t help herself. “You’re kidding, right?” “At the risk of being trite, do I look like I’m kidding?” “At the risk of being obnoxious, do I look like a nun? Because that’s the only situation I can imagine you being turned down, Sir Sexy.” Air pushed past his smirk. His thick stubble disguised the exact edges of his lips but the flash of his teeth briefly showed her that they were curved and lush…and maybe a little wicked. Wicked. Right behind daunting on what she’d come here looking for.

button About the author
Bestselling romance author Angel Payne has been reading and writing her entire life, though her love for romances began in junior high, when writing with friends on “swap stories” they’d trade between classes. Needless to say, those stories involved lots of angst, groping, drama, and French kissing.
She began getting a paycheck for her writing in her twenties, writing record reviews for a Beverly Hills-based dance music magazine. Some years, various entertainment industry gigs, and a number of years in the hospitality industry later, Angel returned to the thing she loves the most: creating character-based romantic fiction. Along the way, she also graduated with two degrees from Chapman University in Southern California, taking departmental honors for English, before writing five historical romances for Kensington and Bantam/Doubleday/Dell.
Angel found a true home in writing contemporary-based romances that feature high heat and high concepts, focusing on memorable alpha men and the women who tame them. She has numerous book series to her credit, including the Kinky Truth series, the Secrets of Stone series (with Victoria Blue), and the popular W.I.L.D. Boys of Special Forces series, as well as several stand-alone titles. TheCimarron series and the Once Upon a Sin series both launch in 2015.
Angel still lives in Southern California, where she is married to her soul mate and lives on a street that looks like Brigadoon, with their awesome daughter and Lady Claire, the dog with impeccable manners. When not writing, she enjoys reading, pop culture, alt rock, cute shoes, and hanging at the beach with family and friends.
